What Is a Pallet Truck with a Built-In Scale?
A pallet truck with scale combines pallet handling and weight measurement in one unit. It allows operators to lift a pallet and check its weight without first taking it to a separate weighing station.
Also called a weighing pallet truck or pallet jack with scale, this equipment is useful when weight checks form part of everyday warehouse work. Common tasks include checking incoming deliveries, verifying outgoing pallet weights and recording the weight of materials moving through production.
How Does a Pallet Truck with Scale Work?
The truck uses load sensors to measure the load supported by its forks. A digital indicator then displays the weight.
On a manual model, the operator pumps the handle to raise the pallet and moves the truck by hand. The weighing system uses electrical power, but this does not make the truck electrically driven.
To take a reading, the operator lifts the pallet clear of the floor and waits for the display to stabilise. The load must be fully supported by the forks, without touching nearby objects.
The reading normally includes both the goods and the pallet. Measuring the goods alone requires accounting for the pallet’s weight, using a suitable tare function where available or a separate calculation.
Where Is a Weighing Pallet Truck Useful?
Checking Incoming Deliveries
At receiving, operators can compare a pallet’s measured weight with the supplier’s documentation. A difference may indicate that the shipment needs further inspection.
However, weight alone does not confirm the number or identity of the items delivered. It supports the receiving check rather than replacing it.
Verifying Outgoing Pallet Weights
Before dispatch, a weight check can help the warehouse record the weight of a prepared pallet. This is useful when shipment planning or documentation requires weight information.
If the weight is used for commercial billing, confirm that the selected weighing system has the required approval for that purpose.
Recording Material Weights
In production and packing areas, a weighing pallet truck can help operators record material or batch weights at the point of handling. This is particularly useful when the goods are already on pallets and would otherwise need a separate trip to a fixed scale.
What Is the Main Benefit?
The main benefit is flexibility: the weighing equipment moves to the pallet.
For example, a warehouse using a fixed platform scale may need to move each pallet to a designated weighing area before taking it to storage. A weighing pallet truck can remove that detour when the load, floor conditions and weighing requirements are suitable.
The time saved depends on the warehouse layout and how often goods are weighed. A site with frequent checks and long routes to a fixed scale has a different need from one that weighs only a few pallets each week.
What Should You Check Before Buying?
Start with the handling task, then assess the weighing requirements.
- Load capacity: Choose a capacity suitable for the heaviest loaded pallet you expect to handle.
- Fork dimensions: Check fork length, overall width and minimum height against the pallets in use.
- Weighing specifications: Confirm accuracy, display increments and calibration requirements. These describe different aspects of weighing performance.
- Working environment: Check the permitted temperature range and suitability for moisture, dust or washdown.
- Power supply: Understand how the indicator is powered and how batteries are charged or replaced.
- Weighing functions: Confirm whether the supplied configuration includes tare, totalisation, printing or data transfer if these are needed.
For dependable readings, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for positioning, zeroing and calibration. Uneven floors, contact with external objects or an unstable load can affect the result.
QSLIFT Manual Weighing Pallet Trucks
The QSLIFT SHPT20A and SHPT20B are manual pallet trucks with a rated load capacity of 2,000 kg. Both models use four weighing sensors and have a stated weighing accuracy of ±0.1%.

Their published fork dimensions differ, so pallet compatibility should be checked before selection. The SHPT20B specification also identifies a dry operating environment.
When assessing either model, confirm how the stated accuracy is defined and which indicator functions are included in the supplied configuration.
